For this special international project in Switzerland, we created four impressive cardboard Peace Trees in collaboration with UNHCR, serving as a powerful symbol of hope, connection, and peace for the people of Sudan. This installation drew attention to the ongoing conflict and allowed visitors to actively contribute to a message of community and solidarity.
The design of the trees is inspired by the Baobab tree – an iconic tree in many African countries, revered as a gathering place for communities. Like the traditional Baobab, the Peace Trees served as a meeting point and central element during the events.
The garlands decorating the trees were handmade by Sudanese refugees working with UNHCR in Egypt, Kenya, and South Sudan. The leaves of the trees carried personal messages of hope and wishes for peace. During the events, visitors were invited to add their own peace messages to the trees, allowing the installation to grow and evolve throughout the events.
The Peace Trees became the central and most unifying element at both events, attracting significant attention from attendees.
For this project, we produced four trees as a modular kit, making transport and assembly efficient and sustainable. The construction is entirely made from cardboard and designed for stability, reusability, and easy on-site assembly.
