Sturdiness

Often people think of a package from the supermarket when I tell them that I make everything out of cardboard. But there are many different types of cardboard, each with different characteristics, properties, sturdiness, and therefore suitable for different applications. Most of the things I make, such as displays, chairs, tables, benches, lamps, exhibition walls, and trade show booths, are made of corrugated cardboard or honeycomb cardboard. Corrugated cardboard consists of multiple layers of paper; the heavier the paper and the more layers, the sturdier the end product. Honeycomb cardboard is just as strong as wood but lighter in weight and offers even more possibilities. For extra sturdiness, we choose honeycomb cardboard, for example, for our cabinets, trade show booths, or exhibition walls.

Water Resistance

I am also often asked whether cardboard is water-resistant. Because cardboard consists of multiple layers, it will not get soaked immediately. It can often withstand a rain shower, but the open sides are very susceptible to water. In general, cardboard can withstand some moisture, but I do not recommend leaving it outside in all kinds of weather.

Sustainability

A frequently asked question is whether cardboard is really that sustainable. Cardboard is biodegradable, so if it accidentally ends up in nature, it is not a problem. But of course, it is better to simply throw it in with the old paper, because after processing, it can be reused. This extends the lifespan of cardboard, making it much longer-lasting than other materials. The cardboard made in the Netherlands consists of 80% recycled material and wood fibers from sustainable forests.
